Beni/Territoire: “If the civil society’s alerts were taken into account by the security services, we would not have 10 dead in Mayi Moya,” (a survivor)

At least 10 civilians were massacred by ADF terrorists in the village of Mayi-Moya, in the Beni-Mbau sector, about 12 km from the town of OICHA (chief town of the Beni territory) in North Kivu.

According to our source on the ground, the bodies of men and women killed by machetes and guns were found on the morning of Tuesday, February 20, 2024. People are also reported missing, houses have been set on fire and shops have been looted.

“Despite several alerts about the enemy’s movements in the area, the defense and security forces did not prevent the criminals from acting,” said a colleague in the area, who spent the night from Monday to Tuesday in the forest, following the attack that occurred around 10 pm on Monday.

As a result, Mayi Moya is emptying of its inhabitants, who are fleeing to different destinations to seek safety.

Meanwhile, the military administrator of the Beni territory notes that the attackers were pursued by the army in the forest of the Bambuba-Kisiki grouping.

It should be noted that this is one attack too many in this area.

Remember, 2 other civilians were beheaded with machetes in an attack on the night of Saturday to Sunday, February 18, in the locality of Kokola.
